Imagine, if you will, a Speidi-free Christmas. Nice, right?

Well, for Heidi Montag's mom, Darlene Egelhoff, it might be just that in the wake of scathing remarks she made to Us Weekly accusing her new son-in-law, Spencer Pratt, of drugging her daughter prior to their secret nuptials in Mexico.

"After that statement, the Pratts, as in Heidi Pratt and Spencer Pratt, will probably have their own Christmas tree out here," Spencer told E! News' Ryan Seacrest Thursday when asked if they'd be spending the holidays with the in-laws.

Heidi echoed the sentiment in a statement she put out Thursday…

"I want to make it very clear to family, friends and fans that the decision to marry Spencer was very much mine. It was a beautiful day, and I've never been happier," Heidi told Usmagazine.com. "For someone who wasn't even there to suggest otherwise is extremely disappointing."

As for his mother-in-law's harsh words, a scripted Spencer simply shrugged them off:

"I'm sure she's just hurt and reacting crazy because she wasn't there. I think she thinks she's being funny and playing into her character that she hates me or something."

Wait, what? Playing into her character?

"We just filmed together yesterday on The Hills, which was pretty much the most insane day of my life," says Spencer about shooting scenes with Darlene.

Oh, that's right. Lest we forget, there's still the matter of a pseudoreality show, which naturally makes all of this that much more credible.
