Live From New York, McCain's Last Grasp?

NBC won't confirm whether John McCain will be appearing on tomorrow's Saturday Night Live. In other words, my friends, set your TiVos.

The underdog presidential candidate is taking Barack Obama's prime-time infomercial and raising him a late-night guest appearance—the Arizona senator is expected to mock endear himself to the American public in the last new SNL before the election.

There's no word yet on whether Keith Olbermann will also be standing by.

No details on McCain's appearance have been revealed—the network's perpetual "no comment" is a face-saving result of Obama's much-hyped but ultimately scrapped appearance earlier this year—but impressionist extraordinaire Darrell Hammond has channeled the GOP standard-bearer this year.

Ben Affleck, an outspoken Obama supporter, is this week's host.

As it is, McCain is no stranger to 30 Rock. This weekend's nearly sure thing will mark his third appearance on the show—he even hosted an episode back in 2002.

His last cameo took place last spring, when he implored the viewing audience that they would be wise to vote for someone who was "very, very, very old" as their next president.

Two weeks ago, McCain's running mate, Sarah Palin, made an appearance on the show and shared, for a passing, eye-contact-avoiding moment, some screen time with her own doppelgänger, Tina Fey.

The episode was SNL's highest rated in 14 years, averaging 14 million viewers.
