Paul Rodriguez will be back cracking jokes in no time.

A friend of the comedian tells E! News that Rodriguez is "feeling better" and should be getting out of a Washington, D.C., hospital as soon as soon as doctors can figure out what the heck is wrong with him.

"It was either some type of food poisoning or abdominal infection. But it was something not life-threatening," says Jamie Masada, owner of West Hollywood's Laugh Factory and longtime Rodriguez pal. "They don't know what it is [he's suffering from]."

Rodriguez is currently being treated in the ICU at George Washington University Hospital, after being taken there by ambulance yesterday after severe vomiting and stomach pain.

The 54-year-old comic was in the nation's capitol on behalf of the California Latino Water Coalition, a lobbying group he chairs that aims to improve the state's diminishing water supply.
