Lauren Conrad's Candy Girl: "A Nicer Version of Me"

Former Hills starlet isn't exactly like the main character in her debut novel

As you all know by now, Lauren Conrad's debut novel, L.A. Candy, is going to be made into a movie.

But it wasn't long ago that she had her heart set on a television series adaptation.

So, what happened?

"Originally people started asking if I'd consider doing television and I loved the idea," Conrad told me yesterday (click here for the first part of my one-on-one with the former Hills star). "But then we started getting some interest from people working in movies. At first I didn't think it would works, so I spent a really really long time working a movie format from different angles."

"So when I was on my book tour, I actually came up with a format that worked," she continued. "I wrote it all down and I loved the idea. I told them all about it and they really liked it."

Who would she want to play Jane Roberts, the book's semi-autobiographical small town girl main character who becomes a Hollywood television reality star?

"I have no idea, I really don't," Conrad insisted. "When you're dealing with a movie you want to put names in it, but when I was thinking of TV, I was always thinking I wanted someone fresh, someone that hadn't really done anything big yet because in the beginning, they need to have this innocence."

As for how much Jane is really her, Conrad said, "She's very similar to me…[but] I think I made her a little nicer than me, though. I was like, 'I'm going to do a real nice version of me.'"
