Ex-Twilight saga director Catherine Hardwicke was surprisingly happy-go-lucky at the L.A. premiere of Sundance fave Paper Heart Monday night. This after all the cold shoulders she gets these days—being replaced on the Twilight flicks, being labeled "crazy" by more than a few media insiders...and it goes on.

Indeed, the Michael Cera flick asks the ultimate Awful Truth question: Is love actually real?

So we got the chance to catch up with Catherine and talk about just that (and by obvious extension, Twilight to-do's, of course). While Cathy may not be as relatable as, say, Katherine Heigl to star in a Date Like a Celebrity! edition, she definitely has some, uh, fun things to say about finding romance in the world.

Check it out, for sure:

So obviously, Paper Heart is about the ultimate question: Is love real? You created Robsten, so what do you say?
I think it is. Let's hope! We've gotta believe, right? Actually, even my mom, she just fell in love again at like, 75. That's pretty amazing.

How can you tell when it's love? How do you know when it's there?
You've just gotta go with it, and don't question it too much. Just trust it, believe in it, just dive in and have the most fun you can, and that will actually feed it and make it better.

Love it! Gotta ask, you were the one who cast Rob and Kristen together, so...
[laughs] I know!

How did you know that it was there with Robsten? Did you know that it was going to turn into such a steamy…
I was exactly right there when they first met, so I saw it all—from the beginning. And I saw that they both had that wonderful fascination with each other, and that's why I cast Rob.

You're a love guru.
I actually have three marriages to my credit, people that I've set up, yeah.

Who is your secret Hollywood love?
My latest one that I've got—oh, wait, don't tell my boyfriend this—that dude Dominic West from The Wire. Come on! Don't you think? He's amazing. Great actor, and he's badass. I've never met him, so for me, he's just a pretty great guy on TV, but he's just fantastic.

There are rumors that the next few Twilight movies are going to be even more scandalous as they go on.
Great. Let's not be bored in the movies. Let's get wilder!

What's a tip for someone who's wondering whether it's love or not?
I would say, don't even ask. Just dive in and go and make the most of it, and don't question it. The more you question and doubt it, yeah, you'll ruin it, and it won't be love. Just feel it. You know, live! Swim in it! Dive in the deep end!

Ya hear that, Robsten? Your creator says no more toe-dipping dalliances. Go in for the plunge, already, and we so concur!
