Even we had to hold back tears watching this.
Matt Lauer got more than he expected when Tyler Henry stopped by NBC's Today show Tuesday morning to connect him with his loved ones during a touching reading.
The clairvoyant and star of E!'s breakout hit Hollywood Medium With Tyler Henry began the meeting by explaining his process to Lauer and asking to hold a sentimental object. Lauer gave Henry a pocket knife that belonged to his maternal grandfather, but to the television host's surprise, someone else strongly popped in.
"This doesn't come through as a grandfather, but it's coming through in a fatherly essence," Henry explained. "I'm definitely getting more so a reference to a progressive decline in health. He showed me the symbol of a phone being held to one's ear when they're in an unconscious state and being told it's OK to be able to pass. There's a feeling of appreciation of where he was when he actually died."
Lauer acknowledged the medium is talking about his father, who passed away in 1997. He revealed his dad requested to spend the last few weeks of his life at home under hospice care. Henry told him his dad is so thankful he didn't die in a traditional hospital. "That's really important for him in the way that comes across," he said.
After a quick discussion about Lauer's health, Henry had more poignant messages for him from his dad. "There's a reference to fishing, but he's talking about being spoken out loud to," Henry said. "I don't if you're aware of this, but he's acknowledging that an individual would be out on a boat. I feel like I'm sitting alone, and I'm fishing and I'm thinking 'Dad.' He's having me acknowledge this feeling of 'I'm there with you. I'm there with you.'"
Lauer confirmed, "My dad shared two passions with me. He shared golf and fishing, and I do go out and fish a lot alone on a boat. This idea that that might be a time to communicate with him or that he is attempting to communicate is phenomenal to me because I spend a lot of time doing that."
Lauer became visibly more emotional as Tyler then gushed about how proud his father is of him. "You didn't have to get where you are today for him to be proud of you," he told him. "You didn't have to get where you are today to be successful in his eyes because he views you as successful regardless."
Then, the journalist asked if his dad had any questions he wanted to know from him. "He just wants to make sure you're happy," Tyler replied, smiling. "Beyond everything else, beyond everything that you have, just that you're happy. That's his number one priority."
"Tell him I'm happy because of him," Lauer responded, to which Tyler answered, "He knows."
