It's rare to find so many awesomely terrible outfits at a single event. The Oscars, the Emmys—even the Country Music Awards and MTV proms—all of those red carpets have grown so safe and boring that most of those dresses should be called uniforms, not fashion.
Thank goodness for the Glamour Women of the Year awards.
While we're getting a leeeeeetle tired of all these peplums, it was nice to see one in an unusual color—white—on Selena Gomez, courtesy of Giambattista Valli. While Katie Couric took a risk and pulled it off: A yellow damask Vera Wang and a bun? Who woulda thunk it. We also like the way Chelsea Handler upgraded her LBD with an unexpectedly futuristic shoe by Maiyet. Well done.
But the night's big winner for us was—wait for it—Solange Knowles. By now we've gotten used to the bold prints she likes to wear, including this ballsy Derek Lam. And while it's from the designer's spring 2013 collection—can we at least get through Thanksgiving first?—it's a barnburner of a look. Top marks.
And now it's time for the worst.
Kudos to Lena Dunham for wearing a seriously amazing pair of heels to the event. Seriously, give us those Atwoods, like, now. But please keep the Roksanda Ilincic preschool-teacher jumper.
We love ourselves some Julianna Margulies. Most of the time. When she isn't dressed like a lampshade from El Cholo. And we dithered a lot before deciding that Chelsea Clinton needed to go in our minus column. Yes, we love the clearly McQueen-inspired look from Mary Katrantzou, but...but...the flesh tone tights. And the purple shoes. Why, Chelsea, why?
All that said, our un-winner of the night just might be Tyra Banks, who had to ruin a perfectly reasonable LBD with a corset stolen from Medieval Times.
Should've taken a tip from Chelsea Handler, Tyra.
