Get ready to say goodbye! The Vampire Diaries has wrapped its final episode, and the cast and creators have been getting nostalgic all over social media. From #TBTs (like this one from the pilot, posted by creator Kevin Williamson) to pics of the cast and crew, take a look behind the scenes of what is sure to be an epic series finale.
Leave it to Damon to be the last one to actually leave. "That's an official wrap on The Vampire Diaries," Ian Somerhalder wrote on Instagram. "From the 1st day to the last night... I was the last to leave our stages early this morning, not a single crew member, not a sound. To the fans, thank you for it all we would have never been on this journey without you. To all who made this show possible—we did it. 8 years, wow. Thank you all. Love, Ian"
"That's officially a wrap," Paul Wesley said on Instagram. "One last pic of the brothers in front of the Camaro. To the fans, thank you for being a part of this journey in our lives. We couldn't have done it without you."
"8 years," was all Nina Dobrev needed to caption this pic with Paul Wesley.
"Pilot episode! Memories!" Kevin Williamson captioned this flashback pic of Steven R. McQueen and Michael Trevino. Wait for it...
"Season 8. Wrap party!" Williamson said of this much more recent, very, very familiar pic of McQueen and Trevino.
"He's my rock (star)," Candice King said of this pic with husband Joe King, sporting a sweet "She's my vampire" hat. "Taking a break from the tears to celebrate the last 8 years!"
Even little Florence May made an appearance as TVD wrapped up. "No wonder she wanted to come hang on mommy's last day..." Candice King captioned this sweet shot of her toddler eyeing the cake.
"That's a wrap. Thank you #TVDFamily for the love, the passion & the friendship. Eternally grateful," Julie Plec said with this pic of one very detailed wrap cake.
"Most amazing TVD wrap gift ever courtesy of my beautiful family at @foster_grant_sunglasses," Kat Graham wrote. "Thank you sooo much!!! They're amazing!"
"Hurricane Anders has taken over the wrap party," Paul Wesley wrote on Instagram. David Anders is returning this final season as the infamous John Gilbert.
"Farewell, Covington aka our beloved Mystic Falls," Plec wrote on Twitter, saying goodbye to Covington, GA, which doubled for Mystic Falls on screen.
"Thanks @julieplec for writing this storyline about my father on the last season of TVD," Zach Roerig wrote on Instagram. "Joel Gretch has been a healing salve for the wound of losing my own father years ago. Great way to finish up this significant chapter of my life."
"Friday night with some old friends," creator and EP Kevin Williamson said of this heart-stopping photo of Nina Dobrev's return to the set after two years.
Nina Dobrev had the internet freaking out after she revealed she's officially back for the finale with a picture of the script. "I know it's Thursday, but this is not a TBT. #BackOnSet #TVDForever," she wrote on January 26.
"That's a wrap on Caroline's house #tvdseason8 #tvdforever," Candice King wrote on Instagram.
Filming has officially begun, according to this picture writer and director Julie Plec posted on Twitter on January 25.
It apparently took eight whole seasons for Damon to get that many people into his bed at once. Julie Plec captioned this pic, "Last scene in Damon's bedroom."
Williamson posted this sweet pic of a dinner date with Plec and Paul Wesley.
"Love you," Kat Graham wrote to creator and executive producer Kevin Williamson, who returned to help write the finale with Julie Plec.
"Caroline, Stefan & Damon on a warm winter day..." Ian Somerhalder captioned this pic along with Paul Wesley and Candice King.
"Final prep mtg with 1st AD Tony Griffin complete. #tvdforever," Julie Plec said on Twitter.
Plec posted this pic on Twitter, referring to the final time the crew would walk through a filming location to check on sound, lighting, and all the other important technical elements of a shoot.
"Count down to the end starts now... with these two guys," Ian Somerhalder said of this pic with Paul Wesley.
