The pioneering diva commanded a $10 million paycheck for The Preacher's Wife in 1995. She signed a then-record $100 million contract with Arista Records in 2001. Her 2010 Nothing but Love tour grossed $36 million.
But the superlatively talented artist also went through a messy divorce and spent years battling addiction to drugs and alcohol.

We first told you how we caught up with Jordin Sparks last month at the Critics Choice Awards, where she gushed over working with Whitney Houston in the movie Sparkle, Whit's final project before her passing.
But instead of hinting at Whitney's turmoil, Jordin expressed just the opposite—smiling and gushing over her idol's positive and hardworking attitude on set.
And to be honest, we're fairly surprised (and skeptical) to hear there wasn't a single indication Whit may not have been doing as well as she appeared.

Who Does Chaka Khan Blame for Whitney Houston's Death?

The tragedy of losing a legendary superstar is still hard to accept, and for Chaka Khan it's no different. But the singer-songwriter who called Whitney Houston her "little sister," revealed on Piers Morgan Tonight that she thinks Houston's death could have been prevented.
Piers Morgan brought up the point of Houston, who was a "well-documented addict" being seen in public drinking alcohol during her last days of life, which led Chaka Khan to state, in her opinion, who was to blame.
