After a record breaking opening ceremony, the London 2012 Olympics were in high gear Saturday, with everything from day one of Phelps vs. Lochte to First Lady Michelle Obama's appearance.

And if you weren't able to dedicate your day to watching the events yourself, don't fret, we've got all the big stuff right here.

The USA's hottest athlete Ryan Lochte beat out former multi-gold medalist Michael Phelps to win the men's 400 meter Individual Medley. Phelps, who didn't score a medal of any color this round, took to Twitter post-race, where he remained optimistic, tweeting: "Not pleased with my race tonight at all... But tom is a new day! And a new race!!"

As for how the 16-medal-owner felt about USA teammate Ryan's win? Phelps tweeted: "Congrats to @ryanlochte...Way to keep that title in the country where it belongs!!"

And as if competing against a heated rival isn't stressful enough, how about competing in front of the First Lady?

Serena Williams did just that, and not only did she advance to the second round in Tennis with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Serbia's No. 1 Jelena Jankovic, it was also her first-ever Olympic victory.

And of course it was even sweeter with Michelle Obama egging her on from the front row.

After basking in the cheers of the First Lady, Serena also dished out some love. Like Phelps, She took to Twitter to congratulate Lochte, tweeting: "USA 1st GOLD courtesy of Ryan Lochte. Congrats. We LOVE you!!!"

In one of the most-watched Olympic sports, the U.S. men's gymnastics team didn't disappoint with a rousing performance that saw them take the lead over Great Britain and China in session one while outscoring gold medal favorite Japan as well

Danell Leyva and John Orozco tallied the highest individual scores, and overall the team had the best totals on floor exercise and high bar.

Not to mention that the whole team, (Leyva, Orozco, Jonathan HortonJake Dalton and Sam Mikulak) had only three falls the entire day.

An excellent start in pursuit of the gold!
