The Voice vs. American Idol: This Is War
In recent years, the carping about American Idol's ratings, or, rather, American Idol's declining ratings, has been pointless: In the end, it's always No. 1.
Make that, it was always No. 1.
For the first time since before Carrie Underwood outdueled Bo Bice, if you can remember back that long, Idol's been beat—and The Voice did it.
American Idol Drama: Symone Recovers, but Now Tent Girl Is Sick!
Well, last night's cliffhanger was rather dramatic, wasn't it?
There was a scary moment for Symone Black on American Idol last night as she finished singing "Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay" and, seemingly overcome with fatigue or nerves, tottered toward the edge of the stage and fell off. Executive producer Nigel Lythgoe called for a medic, and her understandably concerned father rushed toward the front of the room.
Luckily, Symone was taken to the hospital, treated for dehydration and appears to be doing just fine.
But what happened when she told her dad to quit worrying and showed up for day three of Hollywood Week, along with 184 fellow aspiring stars?

American Idol: Is Symone Black OK After Falling Off the Stage During Hollywood Week?
It was the tumble seen 'round the world...but what happened after?
Symone Black stole the spotlight during the beginning of American Idol's infamous Hollywood Week, but it wasn't her vocals that had everyone talking. The 16-year-old had just finished her rendition of "Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay" when she fell off the stage. Executive producer Nigel Lythgoe immediately called for a medic and then Idol decided to cut it there. How rude!
So is Black all right? Here's what we can tell you...

And that's just on the first two days!
Wannabes from all over the country poured into the theater on Wednesday's episode to do one more a cappella performance for Jennifer Lopez, Randy Jackson and Steven Tyler, who were not there to give feedback—just to cut the crowd in half.
It's difficult to stake a claim to favorites during the initial audition rounds, but there were some familiar, seemingly promising talents who did not make it through.
Feud Alert! American Idol's Nigel Lythgoe on The Voice's Success, Smash and Ryan Seacrest's Future
And the American Idol vs. The Voice battle rages on!
Idol executive producer Nigel Lythgoe hopped on a conference call with reporters this morning where he was asked how he felt about the ratings success of The Voice's second season and whether or not it's contributing to American Idol's ratings decline. In typical Lythgoe fashion, his answer may surprise you.
Lythgoe also addressed host Ryan Seacrest's future on Idol and whether Katharine McPhee's Smash will continue to be a, well, smash hit...

Yes, American Idol. Well, it seems as though judge Randy Jackson had some not-so-nice things to say about the competition.
