Jared Leto wouldn't mind lightening things up a bit.
If for some reason you haven't heard by now, the 44-year-old actor plays the Joker in the new DC comics flick Suicide Squad. Before taking on the iconic villain, Leto won an Oscar for his work playing a a transgender woman dying of AIDS in Dallas Buyers Club.
So, it got me thinking—when the heck will Leto give himself a break and make a fluffy romantic comedy?
"Wouldn't that be nice?" Leto said when I sat down with him in NYC to talk about Suicide Squad. "We could shoot in Hawaii. We'll do the junket in Hawaii.
"I can just be my normal non-waxed self," he added, referring to the extreme body grooming he endured for Buyers Club and Suicide Squad. "That would be wonderful. That would be fun. I would like to do something."
And then Leto suggested that Suicide Squad could be his romantic comedy. "I think people will be surprised because it's pretty funny," he said. "And there's a romance."
He may be onto something—the chemistry between Leto and Margot Robbie, who plays the Joker's girlfriend Harley Quinn, is on fire.
You can see for yourself when Suicide Squad hits theaters tomorrow.
