It's official: The Good Wife is getting a spinoff. TGW alums Christine Baranski and Cush Jumbo will star in the new show, which will live on CBS's streaming platform, CBS All Access, and will premiere in the spring of 2017. It joins the new Star Trek as another original show that will debut on the network proper before moving over to the streaming destination.

"The rumors are true," CBS boss Les Moonves confirmed at the network's Upfront presentation on Wednesday. The spinoff will take place a year after the events of the Good Wife series finale, and will introduce new characters to the world created on the show.

TGW creators Robert and Michelle King are are co-creating and executive producing the new series as well. The duo have spoken openly about a potential spinoff featuring tertiary characters, like Carrie Preston's Elsbeth Tascioni.

The Good Wife ended its run on CBS after seven seasons this May. The show ended with Alicia (Julianna Margulies) essentially betraying her law partner Diane Lockhart (Baranski) by way of Lucca Quinn (Jumbo). The final scene was Diane slapping Alicia, a parallel to how the series began with Alicia slapping her husband Peter (Chris Noth) after a press conference.

When E! News spoke with Jumbo at The Good Wife series finale party, she was game for a spinoff. "I knock on their door every day. I'm like, ‘What's going on? What's going on with the Lucca Quinn spinoff?'" she said. "Please, I would jump—obviously—on that train. I would love for that to happen. But I'm kind of the last one in, so I have to just kind of wait to see what happens. You can't scare the Kings off. You've got to be careful with the Kings."
