While Prince's death Thursday was a tragic shock to the world, the legend left behind comforting thoughts on life and death woven throughout the music that made him an icon.

They have been common themes in most of the musician's top hits, whether Prince was crooning about the dawn of the millennium in "1999" or trying to seduce someone in "Let's Pretend We're Married."

Judging by his poetic remarks on the subject, Prince welcomed death and knew it was an unavoidable part of living. Therefore, he urged fans to soak up the joys of life and not to be bogged down by the difficulties. His focus on the present was a characteristic those closest to him still remember.

"He always talked about life, not death. He was excited about music," his former girlfriend Carmen Electra told E! News exclusively. "But, back then he talked a lot about God, but not about religion."

Though, Prince's outlook on the afterlife was a positive one according to his lyrics. In "Let's Go Crazy," he sang about the difficulties the real world brings that he didn't think we find postmortem.

Family, friends and fans can only hope he was right as the world mourns the loss of this bright star. Here's a look back at all the lines he once sang about life and death:

1. "Let's Go Crazy"

"Dearly beloved/ We are gathered here today/ To get through this thing called life/ Electric word life/ It means forever and that's a mighty long time/ But I'm here to tell you/ There's something else/ The after world"

"'Cause in this life/ Things are much harder than in the after world/ In this life/ You're on your own"

2. "I Would Die 4 U"

"No need to worry/ No need to cry/ I'm your messiah and you're the reason why/ 'Cause you, I would die for you, yeah/ Darling if you want me to/ You, I would die for you"

3. "1999"

"We could all die any day/ I don't wanna die/ I'd rather dance my life away"
