So, that old saying about money not being able to buy you happiness?

It turns out that may be totally bogus, people.

A new study from Cambridge University reveals that dropping dollars in certain areas may mean you're more satisfied in your life.

Before you max out any credit cards to make it rain good vibes, let us break it down for you...

Researchers looked at people's bank transactions and discovered that people who spent more money on purchases and activities that matched their personality types were generally the happiest.

According to The Telegraph, the areas where people spent money were matched with what are considered the "big five" personality traits.

Those being:

  1. "Openness to experience (artistic versus traditional)
  2. Conscientiousness (self-controlled versus easygoing)
  3. Extraversion (outgoing versus reserved)
  4. Agreeableness (compassionate versus competitive)
  5. Neuroticism (prone to stress versus stable)"

If you're spending money on the things that correlate with who you are, you're probably a happier person.

That doesn't mean you necessarily spend more money altogether than other people, or are richer, it means you just know where to spend that money that works best for you.

For example, someone who is extroverted likes to shell out cash at a bar or on entertainment.

A conscientious person would rather spend that money on fitness and staying healthy.

So don't go breaking the bank just to feel good.

Using your extra dollars on the things you love the most are sure to make you smile.
