There's a bun in the oven on Outlander, but the cast is only taking things slightly more seriously than usual.

How so? Well, the fact that Caitriona Balfe's wardrobe now includes a baby bump seems to only be distracting Sam Heughan

"I'm kind of obsessed by it," he tells E! News' Kristin Dos Santos in the video above. "It's really fun to poke, and also just rub it."

Claire (Balfe) surprised her husband Jamie (Heughan) with her pregnancy news in the last few moments of the Starz hit's first season finale, so when the show picks back up in France in season two, we'll get to watch the pair deal with the unexpected—and complicated—news for the first time. Jamie, for instance, is rather confused about what pregnant women can and can't do, and it provides some opportunities for Claire to do some teaching.

While on one hand, it's easy to get silly when wearing a silicone bump, it was important to keep things realistic on screen, especially when it came to sex scenes.

"[Author] Diana [Gabaldon] and I had an amazing conversation about it," Balfe says of the pregnancy storyline. "Obviously I've never been pregnant, so she was talking to me about it, and it was this thing about how you do feel sexy, and you do feel womanly, and it was great to be able to celebrate that and to watch this couple bond and really connect over their impending child. We both thought that was really important."

"We kind of fought for that a little bit, because I think it is important that it's not sort of glamorized," Heughan adds. "It is real. Women who are pregnant are sexy, and glowing, and I think it was really hot."
