Meredith Grey has been through some truly harrowing times on Grey's Anatomy, especially recently. But that's nothing compared to what's in store for the surgeon when the series returns to ABC on Feb. 11. The recently widowed Meredith will be the victim of a brutal attack—and the perpetrator is one of her patients.

You can see some of what's in store for her in a new trailer for the Grey's midseason premiere, above. Namely: bone-chilling trauma that will bring the whole Grey-Sloan Memorial Hospital team together to rally around one of their own.

The cast opened up to E! News about what's to come when we caught up with them on the white carpet at ABC's winter press tour event last week, and it doesn't look good for Mer.

"Meredith gets attacked and it's as gruesome and terrifying as it looks," Kelly McCreary revealed when asked about the upcoming episode. Added Caterina Scorsone, "It's more. More gruesome and terrifying. There were moments where we were like, 'What?! Oh, God!' It's a lot."

The scariest part? "She is totally powerless in the midst of it," said Sarah Drew. "I think that probably is the most terrifying piece of it for her."

But the good news is that it will bring the hospital staff together to support their coworker and friend. "It makes us realize how much of a family Seattle Grace really is and how in times of trauma and times of turmoil, how you come together for the common good," said James Pickens Jr. "In this case, it's saving her life, basically."

Watch the trailer above! Grey's Anatomy returns Thursday, Feb.11 at 8 p.m. on ABC.
