Julianne Hough

It's for the people, voted by the people. More than anything, the People's Choice Awards served up major style inspiration that the people can actually do—without a glam squad. Though we saw plenty of pretty looks on Wednesday's night red carpet, one hairstyle in particular caught our attention: Julianne Hough's twist on the cool-girl bun.

Here to break down the look, celeb hairstylist and E! Style Collective's Riawna Capri.

"I love doing Julianne's hair because she's always open to trying something new," said the hair pro. "She keeps my creative brain on point by always trying to think of something different we haven't done. And after doing her hair for seven years, she really makes me think outside of the box!"

Literally #BehindTheScenes (??????) #sneakpeak of @juleshough for #PeoplesChoice tonight! ??

To create the wet-hair version of the high bun, follow these steps:

Step 1: Prep damp hair with a primer and distribute evenly. Paul Mitchell Awapuhi Wild Ginger MirrorSmooth High Gloss Primer controls hair texture to ensure a sleek blowout for styling.

Step 2: Pull hair into a high, tight ponytail and slick back with a strong hold gel to control texture and enhance the wet look of the style.

Step 3: Split the ponytail into two pieces and wrap them around each other in opposite directions to create the twisted top-knot formation.

Step 4: Pin hair into placing leaving the ends out.

Step 5: Enhance the piece-y texture of the extra hair by running flat iron over the pieces and using a small amount of dry wax for control to make pieces pop.

Step 6: Secure the top knot with a strong, long-lasting hairspray, like Paul Mitchell Hold Me Tight Finishing Spray.

Step 7: Complete the look with a shine spray for a glossy finish.
