Freeform (the new name for ABC Family) is introducing viewers to a whole new supernatural word on Jan. 12 when its highly anticipated new drama Shadowhunters finally premieres, bringing the best-selling book series The Mortal Instruments to the small screen. To say we're excited is like saying Magnus Bane (Harry Shum Jr.), a centuries-old warlock, kind of loves glitter. Who is Magnus Bane you might be asking? Sorry, we forget that there are some newbies out there, but don't worry, we're here to help.
When E! News visited the Toronto set of Shadowhunters (Be jealous, oh so very jealous!), we asked the gorgeous cast to give a quick breakdown of 12 essential terms and relationships new viewers might need to know before checking out the premiere...
In the video above, Katherine McNamara (Clary!), Dominic Sherwood (Jace!), Alberto Rosende (Simon!), Matthew Daddario (Alec!) and more of the new series' stars define some of the type of supernatural beings you'll be introduced to in the season premiere, including Mundanes and Shadowhunters. Plus, you'll learn what the heck a Parabatai is and why everyone wants to get their hands on the Mortal Cup.
Of course, this is still a teen drama, so there is a lot of relationship drama going down, and there are a ton of ships that Tumblr is already obsessed with, including Clace, Malec and Sizzy!
