Real life makes for really good movies.

A slew of films based on true stories are hitting theaters this holiday season.

First up is Spotlight about The Boston Globe's groundbreaking investigation into the Catholic Church's cover-up of child molestation by priests. Heavy material, but so worth it—Spotlight has Oscars written all over it.

Fresh from the release of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2, we'll see more of Jennifer Lawrence in the title role of Joy, director David O. Russell's look at the life of the inventor of the Miracle Mop.

If the buzz is correct, JLaw will once again be scooping up lots of nominations during awards season.
