We Finally Got the Homeland Reunion We've Been Waiting For, But Not In the Way We Wanted It

So much for that brand new Carrie we thought this season of Homeland had brought to us.

Tonight, Carrie's (Claire Danes) beautiful boyfriend Jonas met the old Carrie, and things did not go well. In fact, things went so badly that eventually Carrie found herself knocked out in the unwelcoming arms of her would-be assassin/would-be lover, Quinn (Rupert Friend).

Of course, it took a while to get there.

Carrie's plan to find out who exactly was trying to kill her went a little bit like this: Send Frannie back to the states and stop taking her meds. Or the other way around. Either way, Frannie's safe and Carrie's going on a little trip into Carrie-land.

Unfortunately, Carrie-land involves a lot of anger, some drinking, and a side of her personality that Jonas definitely isn't a fan of, especially when he finds out how many deaths she's had a hand in and how much she's been through at the CIA.

When he gets a weird call that his son has been arrested, he wants to take off for his son's sake. Carrie sees it as a trap and runs off into the woods with a gun. Fortunately/unfortunately, she runs right towards Quinn, without having any idea that it actually is Quinn.

She shoots first, but he's prepared. He drugs her and lays her down on the ground, and the episode ends with one simple but heavy last line:

"Motherf--ker."

Can Carrie and Quinn recover from this? It's unclear, but it's also unclear whether or not we want them to. A lot of things have clearly changed in the past couple years, but only one of them seems better for it.

What did you think of the episode? Who do you think is trying to kill Carrie? Sound off in the comments!
