Even Taylor Swift can't win everything, and you better believe when she doesn't get to go up onstage, make that surprised face and accept her umpteenth award, she's disappointed.

In fact, when her album Red didn't win the Grammy for 2014 Album of the Year, Tay handled her loss like a lot of us would: Drowning in tears and gorging on fast food.

"I remember not going to after-parties," she said in an interview with Grammy Pro. "I went home, and I cried a little bit, and I got In-N-Out Burger and ate a lot."

Sad, yes, but not the end of the world. For one thing, Red lost to Daft Punk's Random Access Memories, which was a solid album. Plus, Taylor's 2008 album Fearless won Album of the Year before, and as of now she has 7 Grammy Awards in total.

Also, this particular loss inspired Taylor to take her music in a new direction. "We don't make music so we can like win a lot of awards," she said, "but you have to take your cues from somewhere if you're going to continue to evolve."

"You have a few options when you don't win an award," she said in her Grammy Pro interview. "For one, you can decide like, 'Ugh, they're wrong. they all voted wrong.' Second you can be like, 'I'm gonna go up on the stage and take the mic from whoever did win it,' or third, you can say, 'Maybe they're right.' Maybe I did not make the record of my career. Maybe I need to fix the problem which was that I have not been making sonically cohesive albums. I need to really think about whether I'm listening to a scared record label and what that's doing to the art I'm making."

So Taylor went to bed, woke up at 4 a.m., and decided her next album would be 1989. "I'm calling it a pop record," she recalled saying. "I'm not listening to anyone at my record label. I'm starting tomorrow."

And that seemed to work out pretty well.
