Stella McCartney is reportedly taking Steve Madden to court for ripping off her signature bag.

Referring to Steve Madden's BTotally bag as a "poorly made copy," Stella and her team are allegedly suing the famed American shoes and accessories designer for unspecified damages concerning the designer's reproduction of her Falabella bag.

"Long after [Stella McCartney's] Falabella collection of bags, with their distinctive trade dress, achieved prominence in the fashion industry, and after [she] obtained design patent protection for its design, [Steve Madden] began importing and selling a tote bag, that, although virtually identical in appearance to Plaintiff's design, is a poorly-made copy," a copy of the suit obtained by Daily Mail reads.

The bag in question is Stella McCartney's most recognizable design, and has garnered a cult-like celebrity following that counts Kate Hudson, Charlize Theron and Jennifer Lopez as fans. And to address the issue of price discrepancy, Stella's version of the slouched fold-over tote fetches $1,195 in stores, while Steve Madden's is up for grabs at a tenth of the price for $108.

Also note, this is not the first time Steve Madden's been slapped with a lawsuit claiming copyright infringement. Just last year, Balenciaga sued the brand for purportedly replicating their best-known motorcycle bag.

With its diamond-cut chain trim and extensive assortment of colorful fabric options—all vegan leather and suede options, mind you—it's easy to see why other designers would take inspiration from Stella's compelling purse design. But as for Steve Madden crossing the knock-off line, well, that one's up to the courts to decide.
