Can we get "Dynasty" on our iPhones immediately?
Don't get us wrong, we're always tapping our toes whenever we watch Empire, but the first few weeks of this new season have left us wanting. ("Snitch Bitch," anyone? No? OK!) And then, along came tonight's episode and we're feeling like the series has returned to its "Drip Drop" glory!
No joke, "Fires Of Heaven" was a musically stacked episode, and while the rhythmic wealth spread far and wide, it was Hakeem's (Bryshere Gray) night, hands down. The youngest Lyon started the episode off with a preview of his new track "Bout 2 Blow" (which Gray co-wrote with Timbaland!) during an in-studio sit-down with Sway and then rained on Lucious' (Terrence Howard) parade at Liviticus with a surprise performance of "Dynasty," alongside Timbaland, that guaranteed the song will be on repeat in our cars for the next few days, at least.
But, like we said, Hakeem wasn't the only one to shine. Jamal (Jussie Smollett) may have been interrupted by his baby brother at Liviticus, but his performance of "No Doubt About It" (with Mr. Worldwide himself, Pitbull) brought another solid party track into our lives. And Fox clearly agreed—the song is being released to radio and the official music video aired during tonight's episode.
And we haven't even talked about Becky G as devious little Valentina. Menage a Trois, Hakeem's attempt at a girl group, may not have been long for this world, but before Valentina stabbed everyone in the back and jumped ship from Lyon Dynasty to Empire Records, we got to see her break it down on "Do It"—which just might be the best song to ever share that title. (Sorry, J.Lo!) Her song in the final moments, "New New," may have fallen a little flat considering all it followed, but serves her right for screwing over Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) and Hakeem!
