Well, there were definitely going to be side effects to a completely unproven, never-before-seen zombie cure. And Major (Robert Buckley) will certainly be feeling them on iZombie this season! As we discovered in the season two premiere, there are certain abilities that come with being a former member of the undead, no matter how briefly you craved brains.

At the end of season one, Liv (Rose McIver) gave her only remaining dose of Ravi's (Rahul Kohli) zombie cure to her ex, Major (after infecting him in the first place, but that's another story). And in the season two premiere, we learned two very important things: One, that it's given both Major and its other patient, Blaine (David Anders), zombie-sensing abilities. And two, the evil Max Rager peeps know about it and are weaponizing it.

That's right, they're using Major's new sense to employ him as a zombie assassin, forcing him to murder Seattle's brain-eating population to keep Liv safe.

Co-creator Rob Thomas reveals that Major's new double life as a cold-blooded killer will last for a while. "You're going to watch him do that for a long time. It's going to be a moral crisis for him," he spills. "It will be tearing him apart and it doesn't get any easier for him for a long time."

But, of course, the Major we know and lust after won't passively take orders for long. "He's not going to sit back and take it all season," Thomas adds. "At some point, he's got to figure out how to turn the tables on Max Rager. It's not that you will watch 22 episodes of him forlornly simply going about this task."

He continues, "He's been put in another pretty awful predicament, but part of the journey will be him trying to figure out a way out of it."

That's not the only thing Major will have to worry about, though. The effectiveness of his cure will be called into question, and things might not look good for his diet going forward. (Hey, maybe he can ask Liv for brain recipe tips.)

"We've got a sort of Flowers for Algernon story playing here," Thomas says. "We've got the one zombie rat new hope who will be sort of the canary in the coal mine for both Major and Blaine. Once stuff starts happening to that rat, you have to figure that it will eventually happen to Major and Blaine as well."
