It's a love story for the ages.
During Thursday night's episode of Late Night with Seth Meyers, host Meyers revealed his secret feelings about the girl who got away—Anne Hathaway—in a hilarious spoof of the final scene of a romantic comedy.
"She's gone now, you know. She's gone forever," the talk show host said of his previous guest after the commercial break. "You know, I had one last question I wanted to ask her—something that was on my mind the second I laid my eyes on her. She was sitting right there and instead I let her walk out of that studio door and out of my life forever."
Meyers was clearly heart-broken over the lost opportunity, so his fellow comrades posted throughout the studio chimed in to offer some advice.
"She came on the show right? She answered all your questions right?" one cameraman in the studio shouted. "So, stop sitting there like a little bitch. Grow some f--king balls and go ask her your question."
Meyers did just that.
Meyers is spotted running through 30 Rock, shouting her name through the halls in desperation. "There's something I want to ask you," he plead, finally spotting her waiting for an elevator as the dramatic instrumental opening of "In Your Eyes" by Peter Gabriel rung through the speaker system.
After punching an intern for a bouquet of flowers, Meyers finally makes his grand approach.
"I'm just a talk show host looking at a talk show guest, asking her," Meyers said to Hathaway, building the suspense as he gazed into her eyes. "You were excellent in the off-broadway play, Grounded. Is returning to the stage something you'd like to do in the future?" his question followed anticlimactically.
Hathaway is no stranger to comedy. In her next on-screen installment within the genre, Nancy Meyers' The Intern, she'll star alongside Hollywood veteran, Robert De Niro. Already the subject of rave reviews, the film follows the relationship between the CEO of a fashion e-commerce company and her new intern—a senior citizen. The Intern hits theaters Friday.
We hope the unlikely pair has just as much chemistry as Meyers clearly has with Hathaway on-screen.
