While she may be better known for her superb funny-girl acting chops—cough, cough Bridesmaids or Gilmore GirlsMelissa McCarthy is also a pretty great fashion designer. How do we know this? Well, the actress shared the first images from her debut collection, Melissa McCarthy Seven7, with Vogue yesterday—and color us impressed! The line meets the everyday gal's needs, with a versatile range of pieces and sizes (ranging from 4 to 28) that all ring in at or under $150 (sadly, no bridesmaids dresses are in the collection…yet).

"Some days I want to be prim and proper, and others I want to be in a band. I lost the ability to do that with clothes," McCarthy told The fashion bible of her motivations while designing the line. "The fun of it is you should be able to put these things together and not have to make a choice about going out to dinner or getting the sweater. Wear the sweater to dinner."

And while it's hard to believe that The Groundlings alumna has ever wanted to pursue anything other than acting, considering her ridiculous ability to send audiences into sidesplitting fits of laughter, the 44-year-old star revealed that launching a fashion line has always been on her brain.

"It's always what I thought I would do," McCarthy told Vogue. "I went into clothing and textiles in college and moved here with Brian Atwood. I was going to finish at FIT and he made me do stand-up on the second night."

You read that right—she's referencing the Brian Atwood, shoe designer aficionado who counts Nicole Kidman, Beyoncé, Jennifer Lopez and more A-listers as regular clients. And while her former roommate may be "responsible" for stalling her fashion career, she can't possibly hold a grudge—obviously, her stand-up comedy stints have helped her out quite a bit.

But now that McCarthy's back to fashion, she's incorporating her charismatic comedienne personality into new line. That means plenty of vibrant patterns and playful silhouettes throughout.
