William Shatner is set to boldly go riding across the country in a way he has never boldly gone riding before. And you may get to watch his trek on TV.

The 84-year-old actor, best known for playing Captain James T. Kirk in the original Star Trek series and movies, will ride a custom-made, 3-wheeled Rivet motorcycle, or "trike," from Chicago to Los Angeles. He will take the vehicle, which he helped design, on the famed Route 66 highway for most of the 8-day, 2,400-mile journey.

His trek is aimed at promoting the new vehicle, which looks completely insane—like something Batman would ride, and raising awareness for American Legion, the United States' biggest veterans organization.

Members of the group and custom motorcycle manufacturer American Wrench will ride with Shatner, who will begin his trek on June 23 and stop at cities such as St. Louis, Kansas City, Oklahoma City, Albuquerque and Las Vegas before arriving in Los Angeles on June 30. The journey will also be filmed for an upcoming television show, American Wrench said in a statement.

"I've been across this country on my thumb, in sports cars, in trucks, with a dog, with a family, but I've never been across the country on a motorcycle," Shatner says in a video released by Rivet. I wanna do that. And I'm going to do that on this new Rivet motorcycle."
