Is the Force officially with Diego Luna?!

The 35-year-old actor is reportedly in talks to play the lead role in the upcoming Star Wars: Rogue One spinoff movie, according to Variety. Not much else is known about the casting or who Luna will play. Luna will join Felicity Jones, Riz Ahmed and Ben Mendelsohn in the highly anticipated film (Mendelsohn is set to star as the film's primary villain according to the trade).

The plot of Rogue One reportedly revolves around the heist of the Death Star by a group of rebel fighters with Ahmed and Luna playing rebel fighters.

Back in March, Disney chairman and CEO Bob Iger announced the news of a Star Wars stand-alone film, which, according to the press release, is expected to explore "the characters and events beyond the core Star Wars saga." At the same time it was announced that Jones was the first major star to sign on to star in Rogue One.

Rogue One will be directed by Gareth Edwards, whose notable credits include Godzilla and Monsters, and written by Chris Weitz (American Pie, About a Boy). The film is expected to start shooting this summer in London and is due for release on December 16, 2016.

Before that, Star Wars: The Force Awakens will hit theaters on December 18, 2015. The newest Star Wars flick stars veterans Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels and Peter Mayhew and will also see newcomers such as John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis and Domhnall Gleeson.
