President Barack Obama Attempts Impression of Frank Underwood From House of Cards—Watch the Video!

Kevin Spacey plays the smarmy U.S. leader on the Netflix show, whose third season was released in February

President Barack Obama tries to impersonate Kevin Spacey's smarmy House of Cards character Francis J. "Frank" Underwood in a belated April Fools' Day clip and is...not that good at it.

The footage is part of a video posted on the White House's YouTube page on April 2 to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the West Wing Week video series, which covers the presidency.

"Hello, everybody," Obama says, attempting a Southern accent and staring at the camera amid a backdrop of a painting of President Abraham Lincoln. "This is not Frank Underwood. This is Barack Obama. Happy April Fools' Day. Frank learned it from me."

In House of Cards, Frank, who Kevin Spacey plays with a thick Southern accent, is a manipulative, confident and charming U.S. leader and Democratic politician from South Carolina. The character narrates the show and breaks the fourth wall to chat with you, his subjects viewers, about his favorite topic, power, and about what he really thinks about basically everyone he deals with professionally (spoiler alert: He thinks they're morons).

Obama is a fan of the popular political drama series. The third season was released on Netflix last month. Last year, before season 2 was made available on the streaming service, Obama issued a special plea to fans on Twitter.

In 2013, Obama joked about Underwood's ability to get stuff done, adding, "I wish things were that ruthlessly efficient." Also that year, Spacey starred in a pre-taped House of Cards parody video that launched the White House Correspondents' Dinner.

"Mr. President, welcome to Nerd Prom," he says in the clip.

Both Spacey and Robin Wright, who plays Frank's equally-as-Machiavellian wife Claire Underwood, attended the White House Correspondents' Dinner that year. They have both contributed funds to Democratic party candidates and groups in the past.

Earlier this month, at a Netflix event, Wright talked about the dinner and her experience meeting Obama. The president attends the annual event.

"Before he even shook my hand—of course, I was shaking like a leaf, I was so nervous—he leaned in and said, 'I just want you to know, I'm not as bad as Francis,'" she told reporters. "He needed me to know that."
