No, you shouldn't, Jared Leto!
Hearts are breaking all over the world because the Oscar winner has chopped his glorious, gorgeous locks in order to officially become The Joker in the upcoming Suicide Squad film. Director David Ayer broke the news on Twitter, sadly posting a picture of Leto's hair in ponytail with scissors appearing dangerously close to his mane.
"Should we? #SuicideSquad," the tweet teases.
All things considered, we have to assume the scissor-holder went through with the snip snip. The Dallas Buyers Club star subsequently retweeted the photo, which can only mean that his man-bun and shiny coif are things of the past. Fans, please feel free to launch a campaign vying for the return of the 30 Seconds to Mars singer's hair.
Despite the tragic loss, we're not surprised Leto is transforming himself for the role. He has a long history of going through drastic changes for his roles, which often result in him receiving a fair amount of kudos and award wins! He famously lost 30-40 pounds for his role as Rayon in Dallas Buyers Club and before that had starved himself to play a junkie in Requiem for a Dream. In 2007, Leto gained more than 60 pounds for Chapter 27.
To prepare for Suicide Squad, Leto is eating a lot in order to bulk up but previously told Billboard that he struggles with eating large quantities.
"Do you mind if I eat a little?" the actor asked in Billboard's Feb. 28 issue, on newsstands now. "I'm trying to gain a lot of weight. It means I have to eat every couple of hours—and I'm terrible at eating a lot."
Leto will share the screen with Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang), Cara Delevingne (Enchantress), Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn) and Will Smith (Deadshot). Tom Hardy had to drop out as Rick Flag because of scheduling issues with his film The Revenant. Warner Bros. has not officially named his replacement.
Many actors have played The Joker over the years, including Cesar Romero in TV's Batman (1966-1968), Jack Nicholson in Tim Burton's Batman (1989) and Heath Ledger in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight (2008).
