Cutest proposal ever, right?

We feel like we've been waiting forever for Downton's resident butler and housekeeper to finally make it official, and they did tonight in sweetest way. Mr. Carson finally decided to invest in that bed and breakfast, and despite the fact that Mrs. Hughes didn't have the money, he put the house under her name anyway.

She was totally thrown when he told her this, blubbering on about how she didn't want him to be stuck with her.

"Well that's the point, I do want to be stuck with you," he told her, right before casually asking her to marry him. After a bit of back and forth, she finally, officially, said yes.

"Of course I'll marry you, you old booby. I thought you'd never ask."

So basically, our hearts grew several sizes tonight.

Elsewhere in the episode, Lady Mary made eyes with Mr. Talbot (Matthew Goode), and he's so charming and so much less boring than anyone else she's been with that we would like to keep him for at least a while please, even if it was weird to introduce a whole new person at the very end of the season. Of course, Robert was just as accepting of Edith's daughter Marigold as we imagined he would be, so now Edith gets to keep her, and she got to flirt with a dinner guest.

And then, finally, we got a sorta kinda momentary wrap up for the ongoing Anna/Bates whodunit. Anna started the episode in jail, but was soon released after Mr. Bates confessed to having killed Green. However, he was soon given an alibi thanks to the work of Mr. Moseley and Mr. Baxter. They were reunited for Christmas, and it is our greatest hope that this storyline is almost over for good.

Finally, the family said goodbye to Tom and Sybbie, who are leaving for America. Of course, before they left, they took some time to remember Sybil in an emotional, heartbreaking scene, followed by an even more emotional one in which the Earl told Tom he had become an even better man than he could have hoped.

So that was a fun end to a sort of scattered season, but Mrs. Hughes and Mr. Carson got engaged and that is all that matters!
