Dakota Johnson sure knows how to make David Letterman blush!

The Fifty Shades of Grey star was a guest on CBS' Late Show Tuesday, and she was quick to remind him that her mom, Melanie Griffith, is a big fan. "On the way here, my mom told me to tell you that she loves you. She really meant it!"

"I know," he said. "And here's something I will tell you. Your mom used to come on the show all the time, and I really loved your mom."

"She brought you handcuffs one time," said Dakota with a sly smile. "Yep...so, are you my dad?"

The actress, 25, and the late-night host, 67, giggled at the obvious joke. "I know who my dad is," Dakota said with a grin.

"Of course, Don Johnson," said Dave.

Dakota confirmed that (not that there was any doubt) and proceeded to tell the late-night host how her parents almost named her Ruby. They decided not to, however, because, "My dad thought 'Ruby Johnson' sounded like a stripper's name," she explained.

Still, Dave and Dakota agreed Ruby was a nice name, and the actress pointed out, too, "Look at my career! [A stripper name] could've worked out!"

She's alluding, of course, to her nude scenes in Fifty Shades of Grey. Speaking of which, Dave wanted to know about Charlie Hunnam, the actor originally cast to play Christian Grey. Admittedly, Dakota said that when he pulled out of the film in 2013, "That was a confusing moment."

"I think it was [that] his schedule conflicted," she said. "He was...busy."

Dave pointed out it might've been worth it for the Sons of Anarchy star to clear up his schedule to star in a movie that made nearly $250 million in its opening weekend. "I don't think he knew that was gonna happen," said Dakota. "Whoops!"

The Charlie talk didn't stop there, though! Dave, acknowledging that the role of Christian ultimately went to Jamie Dornan, wanted to know what Dakota thought about the hypothetical idea of having Charlie come back for the second and third films from the franchise.

Watch what she had to say about that in the clip above!
