Matt Lauer must be feeling fifty shades of red!

Last week, Today co-anchors Lauer and Savannah Guthrie interviewed the stars of Fifty Shades of Grey, Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson. Thanks to clever editing—courtesy of Ellen DeGeneres—the serious newsman's conversation with the co-stars took a big left turn, courtesy of his leather harness and whip.

Lauer had a good laugh about it—and even pulled out his handcuffs—on Today Thursday.

Guthrie, meanwhile, shared a photo of Lauer's handcuffs via Twitter.

Today rolled out five exclusive clips from the Universal Pictures and Focus Features film last week. When Dornan and Johnson stopped by Studio 1A, Lauer and Guthrie confessed that it was "awkward" to watch the movie together. "She didn't even want to sit next to me!" Lauer said, with Guthrie adding, "I didn't!"

In fact, Guthrie said with a laugh, "I put a whole seat between us!"

At the time, Lauer and Guthrie had seen the more before Dornan did!

"I am not afraid to look," he joked. "I have been relatively busy but I am going to see it today."

Fifty Shades of Grey is in theaters Friday.

And yes, there are sequels in the works.

"I'm signed on," director Sam Taylor-Johnson recently told E! News. "Let's see how this one goes first."

(E!, Focus Features, NBC and NBCUniversal are all members of the NBCUniversal family.)
