We've got some good news and some bad news about everyone's favorite podcast. The bad news is that there is still no plan for the second season of Serial.
Reporter and host Sarah Koenig spoke to a packed house at Penn State University on Tuesday night, and the line of questioning immediately turned to a follow-up of the series. According to WPSU, when asked what she had in mind for the next season, she responded "Like if any of you has a story, there's an email. No, I mean—we do not have a story."
If you took this admission as a crushing blow, you're not alone. The idea that the This American Life offshoot isn't even close to coming up with another case to follow is depressing indeed. But the good news is that Serial's dedicated fans have banded together to help the apparently crime-starved Koenig find a new subject. A few ideas:
At the talk, Koenig also admitted that the original impetus for the first season was a total shot in dark. "I never mean to create a fever," she told Centre Daily. "It's hard for me to answer why [it went viral.] I didn't know if it was even going to work."
Perhaps the same blind optimism could come in handy the next time around. All the Serial team needs to do is get cracking on figure out that fake baby.
