Find out what we loved (and hated) about TV on Sunday, Jan 18

Happy Sunday! It might be the end of the weekend (especially if you don't have tomorrow off) but it's also a night of glorious television, thanks in part to Revenge's sort of game-changing episode. Plus, Downton was lady-centric while Girls got sort of awesomely meta. All that and more in tonight's rants and raves!

RAVE: Revenge: The show just sort of changed a lot there in those last few minutes. Victoria is distancing herself from David, Emily's gonna try and have a normal life, and now Margeaux's embarking on a journey of revenge (now said in a French accent) against Emily. Whether Margeaux is as much of a badass crazy person as Emily is yet to be seen, but this could be a very interesting new direction.

RAVE: Revenge: We definitely weren't expecting Malcolm Black to die so soon, but what a way to go! He shot David in the leg, stabbed the wound, cut Emily on the arm a little bit, and then tried to choke Victoria before David got a hold of a gun, shot him a whole bunch of times, and Malcolm Black fell dramatically into the fire, left to bother us/search for his daughter no more.

RANT: Revenge: Louise and Nolan got married?! Louise killed her father?! We're supposed to care about this tiresome southern bell when Malcolm Black is holding Victoria and Emily hostage?! Say it ain't so!

BBC America

RAVE: Downton Abbey: Tonight was all about the ladies, and it was quite a bit more interesting than all of last week's real estate discussions. We're not thrilled that Mary's not thrilled with Tony anymore, and we're also not happy that Edith's been forbidden from seeing Marigold anymore (though it does make sense, because she's being totally weird for a godmother). We will, however, be totally psyched if this Prince guy turns into a love interest for the Dowager Countess, especially after all the lectures to Mary.

RAVE: Galavant: Weird Al as a singing monk? Yes. Ricky Gervais as a gross belching wizard who lives in an attic? A little less yes, until he busted out the Harry Potter references. Harry Potter references are always a great big yes.

HBO

RAVE: Girls: There's something about a show so obviously criticizing itself (or at least playing with its own criticism) that is just weirdly thrilling to us, and while we're not so thrilled to watch characters embarrass themselves, the response to Hannah's short story at the writer's workshop was sort of perfect and not at all surprising. Also kinda loving the choice to bring Elijah to Iowa. At least the girl won't be so alone as her whole creative world comes crashing down.

RAVE: The Real Housewives of Atlanta: Wait, did we hear that right? Nene apologized to Claudia? It seems she did, but Claudia didn't take it gracefully and took the opportunity to start calling Porsha out on her giggling and on the fact that her car was apparently bought for her by a married dude. There were also more sex parties. Never change, RHOA.
