Ben Affleck knows he's been called a lot of names during his Hollywood career.

But one title that brings the actor a wide variety of emotions is being referred to as a humanitarian.

"To be honest, it's something I have a hard time accepting," he shared at the 2015 People's Choice Awards after accepting the Favorite Humanitarian Award.

Luckily, close friend Amy Adams gave us plenty of reasons to applaud the actor for his contributions away from the big screen.

"The same qualities that make my friend Ben Affleck a phenomenal actor, director and writer are also what make him an extraordinary humanitarian," she explained to the crowd. "He puts his heart and soul into everything he does."

One cause near and dear to Batman's heart is the ongoing crisis in the Eastern Congo where over five million people have died due to violence and disease.

"He didn't just write a check," Adams explained. "He dove in head first, completely immersing himself."

Thanks to Affleck, kids are receiving an education, businesses are flourishing and millions have been raised to give abused victims a voice to finally be heard.

"It's important for me to try my hand at philanthropy because I want to leave behind a record of someone who did more than just gobble up stuff for himself," Affleck shared during the night. "I realize a life lived just for yourself is not much of a life."
