We're glad to report that Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton is out of the hospital following a scary car crash in Charlotte yesterday.

The 25-year-old football star's team shared the happy update with fans early Tuesday. "Cam Newton has soreness but is in good spirits. He's excited to be discharged and begin recuperating with family," the Panthers wrote on Twitter today, adding, "@CameronNewton discharged from hospital."

In addition to the announcement, Panthers head coach Ron Rivera spoke to media today and said he talked to Newton this morning. "He was disappointed, he felt like he was letting his teammates down," Rivera said.

Newton's car wreck left him suffering with two transverse process fractures in his back, but no other serious injuries. Rivera added of Newton's current condition, "He has that smile. It lets you know that everything's going to be OK."

Rivera also confirmed Newton will not be playing with the Panthers this Sunday when they face off against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Witnesses of Newton's car crash on Tuesday reported that the sports star's truck rolled several times. Newton was quickly transported to a nearby hospital where he stayed overnight. After the accident, the Panthers said in a statement, "Cam Newton is in fair condition and undergoing tests at Carolinas Medical Center and will remain there overnight for observation."
