While appearing on The Graham Norton Show together recently, Sir Ian McKellen and the boys of One Direction couldn't help but gush over each other! As it turns out, McKellen and the boy-banders were supposed to meet some time ago but the get-together never happened.
"We were on tour in New Zealand, and they were filming [The Hobbit]," Harry Styles explained.
"You were meant to come see us filming the day after your final concert, so I thought I would go and have a look at them, see who they are. Very enjoyable. Thank you," McKellen added. "It was a very small show. It was just you, no fireworks or anything."
"They didn't turn up the next day to visit us, because why? I don't know. What had happened on your last night?" McKellen joked while insinuating the 1D guys might have been hungover from too much partying.
Later in the interview, Styles admitted he's a big fan of McKellen's Lord of the Rings movies. He revealed he watched them as a kid when he "was off school ill."
"You're amazing!" Styles gushed to McKellen, who quickly reciprocated with, "So are you."
