The Walking Dead companion/spinoff series has its lead character in Cliff Curtis. E! News can confirm Curtis will topline the drama from AMC.

Curtis, whose TV credits include Fox's Gang Related, Missing and Body of Proof, joins the previously announced cast Frank Dillane and Alycia Debnam Carey.

Character details are being kept under wraps, but Curtis will likely play Sean Cabrera, who is described a good man. The new spinoff series will feature new characters, take place at a different setting and perhaps during a different time than the current Walking Dead series.

Comic book scribe and series executive producer Robert Kirkman will also serve as executive producer on the show alongside Dave Erickson. The Walking Dead's Gale Anne Hurd and David Alpert are also executive producers. Erickson will serve as showrunner should the pilot go to series. Given the success of AMC's The Walking Dead, it will likely go to series.

"There are many corners of The Walking Dead universe that remain unseen in the shadows. Being given the opportunity to shine a light into those corners and see what lurks out there is an absolute thrill. I know the fans are anxious to hear what Dave and I have been cooking up for this new universe of The Walking Dead, and I'm happy to be one step closer to sharing it with them," Kirkman said in a statement when AMC announced the pilot.

The Hollywood Reporter first reported Curtis' casting.

AMC will launch a spinoff of Breaking Bad this winter with Better Call Saul. Bob Odenkirk stars in the prequel series set before the events of the five seasons of Breaking Bad. It's already been renewed for a second season.

The network also just announced a Preacher pilot from Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. The series is based on the Vertigo comic of the same name from Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon.
