Heidi and Spencer for "Higher"

Heidi Montag of The Hills didn't purposely make her music video bad so we'd all talk about it. It just turned out that way.

"I had no idea people would act so negatively toward it," she told me at EA's Burnout Paradise launch party, regarding their surfside production. "It was literally a fun day on the beach. Spencer and I were just there, and he had a camera in his trunk, and we were like, Why don't we just shoot it? Paris did it with her video. Madonna did one, too."

Yes, sweetie, but Paris actually hired production people and didn't let her boyfriend shoot it with a handheld camera. Heidi's trainwreck of a video makes "Stars Are Blind" look like high art. And I'm not even touching the Madonna comparison.

"I'm doing this album independently, so I don't have a huge budget for it," Heidi said. What about those rumors that they have deals with the paparazzi to stage photo ops for a cut of the cash? That could raise a little production cash, no?

"If the paparazzi gave me money, that would be better than Christmas," Spencer told me. "I wish."

Now, on the off chance you just couldn't get enough of Spencer's artful directing in "Higher," you're in luck. He told me there's another video coming, which he'll be masterminding.

Don't worry, though—Spencer will still be in front of the cameras, too. The couple confirmed they're back on The Hills next season. Bet Lauren Conrad is thrilled!

Speaking of Lauren, she helped former Laguna Beach boy-toy Stephen Colletti celebrate his birthday last week. The two were spotted canoodling at the launch of Vinyl Vixen Thursdays at Whiskey Blue, where they arrived and left together. No cameras were filming, but could Stephen be making a cameo on the next season? Stay tuned...
