Authorities need more answers to sort out the situation surrounding Heath Ledger's death.

An autopsy completed on the 28-year-old actor's body was inconclusive, and additional tests will be needed to determine the cause of death, the New York Medical Examiner's office said Wednesday.

It's expected to take at least 10 more days to complete the investigation, a spokesperson for the medical examiner said.

Ledger's body was discovered by his housekeeper Tuesday afternoon in his Manhattan apartment.

Prescription sleeping pills were found nearby, leading authorities to believe the death could be the result of an accidental overdose.

A police spokesperson said there was "no obvious sign of suicide," nor was foul play believed to be a factor.

The actor's family said his death was purely accidental.

"Heath has touched so many people on so many different levels during his short life, but few had the pleasure of truly knowing him," the actor's father, Kim Ledger said in a statement. "Please now respect our family's need to grieve and come to terms with our loss privately."

A rep for the actor said that, as of now, there are no plans for a memorial service, either in Australia or the States.

As word of the Brokeback Mountain star's untimely death spread, remembrances flooded in from his Hollywood counterparts.

"He was just taking off, and to lose his life at such a young age is a tragic loss," Mel Gibson, who costarred with Ledger in The Patriot, told E! News. "My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family."

"The studio is stunned and devastated by this tragic news," Warner Bros. execs Alan Horn and Jeffery Robinov said of Ledger, who had recently wrapped the studio's Batman sequel, The Dark Knight, and was already winning raves for his reincarnation of the Joker.

"The entertainment community has lost an enormous talent. Heath was a brilliant actor and an exceptional person. Our hearts go out to his family and friends."

Michelle Williams, Ledger's former fiancée and the mother of his two-year-old daughter, Matilda, was reportedly on location in Sweden and was said to be "devastated" by the news. A spokesperson for the actress has denied any immediate comment.

After news of Ledger's death broke, hundreds of fans visited the actor's SoHo apartment building, piling letters, flowers and candles on a makeshift memorial outside.

Though the cause of Ledger's death remains under investigation, the White House elected to postpone a President Bush event Wednesday promoting an ad campaign meant to discourage prescription drug abuse.

"We thought it would be better to postpone the event rather than run the risk of anyone thinking that we were being opportunistic in highlighting the issue," White House press secretary Dana Perino said.
