Rita Ora Misses Teen Choice Awards: Did Calvin Harris Have Anything to Do With It?

There was a famous face missing from the 2014 Teen Choice Awards last night.

Singer Rita Ora was slated to appear and perform at the popular awards show in Los Angeles Sunday evening, but it turns out the British star had to scrap her plans at the last minute. "Guys I am so sorry. I will make it up too you. I promise. I'm devastated. I love my fans," she tweeted, but never really gave an explanation as to what happened.

However, it turns out it may have had something to do with her ex-boyfriend Calvin Harris.

A source tells E! News that the EDM producer stopped Ora from performing "I Will Never Let You Down," a song he wrote for her. The insider adds that she had been rehearsing for more than a week and at the last minute he declined permission for her to sing it (and yes, he's allowed to do that since he's the writer of the song).

Reps for both camps were not immediately available when contacted by E! News on the matter.

Now the most important question—why?! Sure, the pair broke up, but they seemed to be amicable about it.

The source tells us that Harris is hurt about how things went down with Ora, which may also shed some light behind some of his latest cryptic social media posts. On Saturday morning, Calvin quoted lyrics from his song "Summer" with a sad emoji face, writing, "You act so innocent now...but you lied so soon." He later also posted a meme of a dog's face with the caption, "When you start realizing s--t."

Meanwhile, Rita posted a photo on Instagram with the words "I [heart] U Teen Choice" on a whiteboard and captioned it, "Sorry I couldn't be there."

But Ora did her best to make it up to her SoCal fans by joining gal-pal Iggy Azalea and MAGIC! for a free performance at the Santa Monica pier.

"Even though I'm a little depressed this guy might of cracked a little grin. And the pizza. When in doubt. Comfort eat. Your allowed. LA see you soon. Santa Monica pier? Who's coming? #pandora," she wrote on Instagram.

"I'm gonna tell you the truth: I'm not doing too great," the Kosovo-born, England-raised singer admitted to Glamour U.K.'s September issue when asked about life post-split. "But, I'm doing better than I thought. I adore him and he's such an amazing human being. It was more about the situation. It was inconvenient. It sucks. It wasn't about 'us.' It was about the world we live in."
