    Pop Goes Tori Spelling

Tori Spelling has come a long way since her days as the virginal Donna Martin.

The Beverly Hills, 90210 alum welcomed her first child with husband Dean McDermott Tuesday, a baby boy named Liam Aaron McDermott, weighing in at six pounds, six ounces. It's the second child for McDermott, who also has a son from his previous marriage; Spelling's first marriage to Charlie Shanian produced no children.

The baby's middle name is in honor of his grandfather, legendary TV producer Aaron Spelling, who died in June.

The delivery took place at Los Angeles' Cedar Sinai Medical Center, where mother and baby were said to be resting comfortably.

In a white flag-waving display, Candy Spelling was also present at the hospital to welcome her grandson, E! News confirmed.

"Words can't describe the joy and elation I feel at this truly happy event," the new grandmother told People on Wednesday. "I am looking forward to doting on my new little grandson and all the memorable fun that comes with it."

Even before his arrival, little Liam was already playing the role of peacemaker in the dysfunctional dynasty, by inspiring his mother and grandmother to reevaluate their contentious relationship.

The troubles between Tori and Candy Spelling reportedly began when Tori included a wicked parody of her mother in an episode of her VH1 faux-reality series, So NoTORIous, which left Candy enraged. Tensions escalated after Aaron Spelling's death, when Tori learned she had inherited only $800,000 of her father's vast fortune and blamed her mother for cutting her out of the will.

The first hint that the new arrival might help heal the Spelling family rift came in October, when Candy Spelling told People she was "thrilled and ecstatic" to learn that Tori was pregnant.

As Tori's due date approached, the mother-daughter duo reportedly began making attempts to work through their differences after months of estrangement.

"We have been in touch with each other and are in the process of communicating and working things out," Candy told People this week.

In an appearance on the Today show Monday, Tori, 33, also alluded to her hopes of reconciling with her mother, though she did not elaborate.

According to Tori's brother, Randy Spelling, 28, the idea of becoming a grandmother motivated his mother to soften her stance on his sister.

"My mom is having a grandchild, and it puts things into perspective," the new uncle told People.

Meanwhile, Liam's debut coincides neatly with the debut of another Spelling-McDermott joint production—their new reality series, Tori & Dean: Inn Love, which premieres on Oxygen next week.

The series centers on the couple's decision to acquire, renovate and operate a bed-and-breakfast in Temecula, California. The grand opening of the B&B, named the Chateau La Rue in honor of Spelling's pug, Mimi La Rue, took place earlier this month.

Once things settle down, Spelling has also announced her intention to pen her memoirs, a project she has said she plans to undertake "when the baby is napping."

The end result, due in spring 2008, is expected to explore topics such as plastic surgery rumors, her days as a party girl, her romances and her change in fortune following her father's death.

In other words, it's another family feud in the making.
