Another life was almost ruined by science, you guys. It just about ruined our lives in high school, and it struck again. This time, in Clayton County, Ga.
Paris Gray, the senior class vice president at Mundy's Mill High School, used a very clever (albeit dirty) science joke in her yearbook quote. And it almost cost her walking at graduation.
The quote read: "When the going gets tough just remember to Barium, Carbon, Potassium, Thorium, Astatine, Arsenic, Sulfur, Uranium, Phosphorus."
When you take those elements and use their periodic table abbreviations, the quote then reads: "When the going gets tough just remember to BaCK ThAt AsS UP," a nod to Juvenile's 1999 hit single "Back That Ass Up." Or "Back That Thang Up," if you will.
"Basically, it was me just saying start all over again," she told Atlanta's WSB-TV. "You have to go back and start all over."
Apparently school officials did not find her quote poignant or funny, because Paris was given an in-school suspension and was told she wouldn't be able to walk at her graduation.
Paris, who is a member of SADD and the Beta Club, was also scheduled to give an inspirational speech at graduation.
"I think their reaction was beyond what it should have been because nobody understood it," she said. "It just completely destroyed me, and my mom's been telling me don't let it ruin my happiness but it's like really taking a big toll."
Thankfully, Paris and her family sat down with the school's principal and the superintendent on Tuesday and her punishment was lifted. She will be able to walk and talk at graduation and the superintendent even challenged her to "give the best speech ever."
We suggest just going up on stage and rapping "Back That Azz Up" in full, but that's just our humble opinion.
And now the song will be stuck in your head all day. Yay!
