Hounsou tells me he needs to have a talk with Kenzo before tonight's Cannes Film Festival premiere of How to Train Your Dragon 2.
"I kind of have to prep him," the Blood Diamond star told me yesterday while promoting the movie at the Carlton Hotel. "He's not quite aware that I'm playing a bad guy. He hasn't seen me playing a bad guy. That's going to be interesting."
In the movie, Hounsou plays Drago Bludvist, a ruthless villain who tries to destroy the land of Berk with an army of dragons.
Even though people have told him for years to do voiceover work because of his "interesting voice," Dragon 2 is his animated movie debut.
"It's long overdue and I'm quite excited," Hounsou said.
And, he added, he "absolutely" did the movie for Kenzo.
Jay Baruchel returns to the Dragon followup as Hiccup, the son of Berk's tribal chief.
"I love getting to play a hero," he said. "I've been doing it since I was a little kid. It's nice to finally get paid for it."
America Ferrera is also back as dragon rider Astrid, but she's not the only strong female character in Dragon 2. Kristen Wiig is once again playing Ruffnut and Cate Blanchett has joined the cast as dragon rescuer Valka.
"I think it's incredible for young girls and young boys to just accept that girls are doers and they're in the middle of the adventure, they're in the middle of the action," Ferrera said. "It's not a conversation. They just are."
How to Train Your Dragon 2 is in theaters on June 13.
Hounsou also talked about his role in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy. Make sure to come back to E! Online later on to find out what he had to say.
