Vanessa Hudgens looked like a knockout on Sunday, Jan. 12.

The Gimme Shelter actress got gussied up for InStyle and Warner Bros.' 71st Annual Golden Globes afterparty inside the Beverly Hilton Hotel, rocking a backless gown that featured a plunging neckline. Wearing her hair down in loose waves, the movie star opted for a smoky eye, a nude lip and red nails.

Hudgens, 25, walked the red carpet with her boyfriend, Carrie Diaries actor Austin Butler, 22. The lovebirds also hit up the Weinstein Company and Netflix's 2014 Golden Globes afterparty presented by Bombardier, FIJI Water, Lexus, Laura Mercier, Marie Claire and Yucaipa Films.

Late last week, Hudgens stopped by Good Day Atlanta to chat about her role as a homeless, pregnant teenager in Gimme Shelter. "I read the script and I knew immediately that this was something that I had to do, to challenge myself and to get the story out there. It's so important," she said of the film, which is based on a true story.

To better understand her character, Hudgens stayed in a homeless shelter for "about two weeks" before filming began. "These girls trusted me and they opened up to me and shared their stories with me, and I kind of became their family, which was an honor," she recalled.

Hudgens transformed herself for the movie by gaining 15 lbs. and cutting her hair off on camera. "We put little spots on my face to make my skin look worse, we thickened my eyebrows, we put red circles around my eyes—just anything and everything," the actress said of becoming less typically pretty.

The film, which also stars Rosario Dawson, Brendan Fraser and James Earl Jones, is in theaters Jan. 24.
