Talk about news to sing about.

Bette Midler is returning to TV in a big way. The Divine Miss M is attached to play Mae West in an HBO movie.

Let that sink in. Go on, we'll wait.

The movie, which is currently still in development, has Harvey Fierstein attached to write and William Friedkin on board to direct. E! Online has confirmed Deadline's original report.

The HBO flick is based on West's autobiography Goodness Had Nothing to Do With It. Jerry Weintraub, one of the driving forces of HBO's Liberace biopic Behind the Candelabra, is executive producing the HBO project with Midler. Look for the film to focus on West's early roles.

Midler's recent credits include Parental Guidance opposite Billy Crystal and the play I'll Eat You Last on Broadway. Not counting Hocus Pocus' annual airings, Midler was last seen in a scripted TV role in her short-lived self-titled sitcom Bette.

The Beaches star is just the latest big name set to come to TV as Halle Berry and Meg Ryan are both heading to the small screen, as well as many other A-listers.
