There's no doubt that Matthew McConaughey would look super-hot playing Christian Grey in the upcoming Fifty Shades of Grey movie.
But don't count on the hunky 43-year-old actor starring opposite Dakota Johnson in the film adaptation of E.L. James' erotica novel.
"I've heard of it, yeah," McConaughey dished to us of the Fifty Shades movie at last night's Hollywood Film Awards in Beverly Hills. "I have not read the book. I don't even know what the book is about."
McConaughey added, "I'd be making up an answer if I told you any more." And there you have it.
At last night's bash, Fifty Shades of Grey producer Michael De Luca gave us exclusive scoop on how replacing Charlie Hunnam in the starring role is going. "We're looking on your website, we're looking under rocks in Zimbabwe, in space, on the moon," De Luca dished. "We're looking everywhere, but I think in a couple weeks it will be announced and everything will be cool."
De Luca called Dakota Johnson a "rock," adding, "She's just so Anastasia Steele. She's the best partner a producer could have...She's helping us look through the candidates to see which chemistry kind of captures our attention."
As for Hunnam dropping out of the flick, De Luca said, "Charlie, I think, is an amazing actor of his generation or any generation, and we just couldn't make it work in the time he had to transform into Christian Grey. But I think if it's meant to be its meant to be. I'm convinced we'll work together again."
Meanwhile, McConaughey, who received the Hollywood Actor Award at last night's show, dished to reporters about his recent string of critically acclaimed indie roles, including his parts in Magic Mike, Mud and his latest Dallas Buyers Club.
"There's definitely a little evolution," he said. "My relationship with my career, I was like, 'It's going fine. I'm enjoying it. Well, let's shake things up a little bit. Let's scare yourself, McConaughey and jump in pools that you don't know what's on the other side.' And that was sort of the basic level of it. And I held out to find these things or to let these things find me. And I've been really turned on by these characters."
