Blake Lively is ready to get back in the game.

The new Mrs. Ryan Reynolds seemed to have put her acting career on the back burner since she tied the knot to her Green Lantern costar a little over a year ago, but E! News can confirm that Lively will hit the big screen soon enough after snagging the starring role in The Age of Adaline.

The newlywed will lead the romantic drama (which begins filming in March) alongside Oscar winner Ellen Burstyn, and will play a beautiful woman born at the turn of the 20th century, who stops aging after a near-death accident. Lively's character then goes on a worldwide excursion throughout the century without divulging her secret, until she meets a special man who shakes things up.

The 26-year-old hinted at being linked to the project in late September, when she told British Vogue in an interview, "It's something that will be launching in a few months and that I'm really, really thrilled about."

She continued, "The main element of it is that it's about storytelling and it's about living a very one-of-a-kind, curated life, and how to achieve that. There's nothing like it out there—it's without a genre."

Katherine Heigl was originally cast for the role, but dropped out in November 2010. After initially reporting that the former Grey's Anatomy star was fired from the film, Deadline said the actress' camp denied the claims and added that producer Gary Lucchesi said, "Heigl's Paradigm agent Norm Aladjem called us last night, saying that Heigl asked to withdraw. There was no drama here."

The reasons for dropping out of the film, however, remain unknown.

    Deadline first reported the story.
